Following our Fundamentals of Economic Development Workshop in Trumbull, the town recognized the importance of placemaking. Trumbull does not have a town center, a downtown, nor a traditional town green. CERC facilitated a workshop on placemaking for the same audience of elected and appointed officials and key economic development staff to help them learn more about the heart of Trumbull.
Working with Yale Urban Design Workshop, the workshop focused on fiscal, physical and social aspects of turning a “space” into a “place.” They wished to identify a place in town to serve some of the same functions: gathering the community and enhancing the town’s character. The workshop provided education and engagement with the audience of town leaders and economic development team members to discuss the importance, fiscal considerations and efforts to address how to create “place” in Trumbull.
“As we seek to develop a common vision for Trumbull’s future economic vitality in a time of rapid change and reurbanization, CERC has been instrumental in working with Town staff and Trumbull’s Boards and Commissions to digest data, trends and strategies to insure Trumbull remains a community of choice into the future."
