Consistency in the Delivery of Economic Development Programs

Happy New Year!
At the December meeting of the board of directors, they adopted a new value proposition for CERC and I thought I would outline that for you as there is resonance with what we have been doing and what we will be doing in the future.
First, CERC drives economic development in Connecticut. How do we do it? By providing research based data, planning, and implementation strategies.
What are we doing with that? To foster business formation, recruitment, and growth.
So its clearly all about competitiveness in Connecticut. And we think if we succeed in doing this types of things, it could lead to the type of economic development that we need in the state - what everybody’s looking for.
You may have heard that there is a new commission on economic growth and fiscal stability in the state, and the business leaders that are leading that effort, really want to bring economic growth back and when we have economic growth, hopefully we’ll be able to solve some of the fiscal problems we face as a state.
This is going to be a debate in 2018. We are going to go through a political transition at the gubernatorial level, and we may see some changes in the legislature as well. What we need to be watching in 2018 is the political changes that are going to occur and what CERC always likes to say is that whenever there is political change, because we are a public-private partnership, we provide consistency in the delivery of economic development programs throughout those transitions.
That will be our focus in 2018.
