Site selectors and others who need data to make business location decisions can now easily research and learn about Plainville through E.D.D.I. (Economic Development Data and Information), Connecticut's only online searchable database of economic and demographic information for the state, its metro areas, regions and towns.

Managed by the Connecticut Economic Resource Center, Inc. (CERC), E.D.D.I. provides users with hundreds of data points representing labor force, wages, leading employers, business growth and more, as well as maps, links and printable flyers.  The localized data in E.D.D.I. - provided by participating towns such as Plainville - goes beyond demographics and quantitative statistics with qualitative information such as business climate and quality of life.
Connecticut, the only state in the Northeast to utilize a system like E.D.D.I., which was created by Location One Information System (LOIS) for several states, consistently receives the highest number of visitors.  In 2007, E.D.D.I. ranked second among the other states with more than 7,500 visits.

"We're not only competing against other states for businesses, we're competing globally, and E.D.D.I. provides the opportunity to promote our locality-based information to consultants and site selectors, before they even contact us," said Robert Lee, Town Manager, Plainville.

"As the word spreads about the availability of this free marketing tool, more towns will participate, giving Connecticut the opportunity to market itself and the quality of its localities and regions to businesses relocating, expanding or starting here," said CERC's President and CEO Robert Santy.

Recent research shows that most businesses begin their search for new properties and new locations online. E.D.D.I was developed according to International Economic Development Council (IEDC) standards and is free to use.  CERC manages E.D.D.I. with funding provided by its utility partners and supports the efforts of Connecticut towns to utilize E.D.D.I. and keep its data current.
