Manufacturing Alliance of Connecticut (MAC) Index
The MAC Index is a critical tool that each year measures the competitiveness of Connecticut manufacturers versus their counterparts in other states.
Description:
CERC has worked jointly with the University of Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis (CCEA) since 2000 to collect and develop data for the 50 states that pertain directly and indirectly to manufacturing competitiveness. The Index compares Connecticut's position to all other states in the areas of productivity, manufacturing costs, economic structure, physical infrastructure, quality of life and technology.
Issues:
The challenge was to develop consistent comparable data that span multi-year periods for all 50 states. Managing the complexities of a multistate data set and ensuring the continuity and quality of the data over time were critical.
Deliverables:
A printed report was distributed by MAC to media, legislatives leaders and community members in Connecticut to help them understand the role and contribution of manufacturing in the Connecticut economy.
Outcomes:
The MAC index contributes to better-informed public decisions and policies, and the presentation of multiple years of data allows this report to address issues associated with the changes in Connecticut's economy over time.
