Frequently Asked Questions

What is E.D.D.I?

E.D.D.I. stands for Economic Development Data and Information.  E.D.D.I. is a first-of-its-kind, online database of economic and demographic information for Connecticut and Western Massachusetts and its metro areas, counties and towns.

Why do we need E.D.D.I.?
E.D.D.I. contains hundreds of searchable data points representing labor force, wages, leading employers, business growth and more, allowing site selectors, researchers and others to access easy-to-find data and learn about our regional landscape. E.D.D.I.'s data is compliant with International Economic Development Council guidelines and features downloadable, locality-specific data provided directly by towns, regions and state-level organizations, as well as maps, links and printable flyers.

Who developed E.D.D.I.?
E.D.D.I. is based on the LocationOne Information System developed by Midwestern utility company Aquila.  The Connecticut Economic Resource Center, Inc. (CERC), in collaboration with Connecticut Light & Power, Yankee Gas and other utility partners, has deployed E.D.D.I. to facilitate easy access to unique local and regional data and enhance the region's economic development capabilities.

Is there a cost for participation?
There is no charge for Connecticut towns and regions to participate in E.D.D.I.

How do I get my region or town involved in E.D.D.I.?
The E.D.D.I. program is open to all towns and regions in Connecticut.  To submit data, click here for instructions.

Does CERC fill in any of the data for the town?
CERC adds value to the E.D.D.I. product by maintaining a number of data points, in particular demographic variables.  These data points will be updated yearly or as new data are available.

What data does the city/town have to provide?
The data collected by the town spans a variety of categories, including business expansions and relocations, major employers, quality of life indicators, local government information, transportation information and web links.

What is the data import schedule?
CERC periodically uploads new data to the site.  When you submit your datasheet, you will be informed of the expected upload data.

How does the data get collected and updated?
To submit your data, the first step is to download a data entry spreadsheet.  Click here for details on data collection, data entry and updating previously submitted data.

Does CERC check my data?
CERC does NOT verify data for content, truth or statistical veracity and takes no responsibility for errors in submissions.  It is the responsibility of the town and/or region to verify any questionable submissions.  Towns and regions are encouraged to check all statistical data and spell- and grammar-check all comments fields.  CERC will only accept data submissions from authorized representatives of a town or region.

How do I link to E.D.D.I.?
There are many ways to format a link into the E.D.D.I. database.  Upon submission of E.D.D.I. data, instructions are given on how to construct a links.  More information on links is available in the E.D.D.I. Getting Started Guide.

Why are there blank fields in the E.D.D.I. database?
The E.D.D.I. database contains over 1200 possible data points in 25 categories.  Based on its experience and input from partner organizations, CERC has prioritized the data collection process for both the data it contributes to E.D.D.I., and the information on the town/region data entry sheets.  Populating the E.D.D.I. database is an iterative process.  The database will continue to grow in value and richness over time as CERC works through the phases of data population and as more regions and towns participate in the E.D.D.I. program.
